How do I contact Weiser customer service in Canada?

Weiser's consumer support line for Canada is 1-800-501-9471. At the time of writing, Weiser lists these hours, in Eastern time:

  • English: Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm

  • French: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Hours change, so confirm them on Weiser's customer service page before you call. Have the lock model and your receipt ready. If you don't know the model, a photo of the lock and its packaging or manual helps.

What does the Weiser warranty cover?

Weiser's published warranty has three parts:

  • Mechanical: lifetime. Defects in material and workmanship are covered for as long as the original purchaser owns the lock.

  • Finish: lifetime. Corrosion, tarnishing and discolouring are covered on the same terms.

  • Electronics: 1 year. On keypad and smart locks, the electronic components carry a 1-year limited warranty. The mechanical parts and the finish keep the lifetime coverage.

Three conditions catch people out. The warranty belongs to the original purchaser, so if the locks came with a house you bought, you are usually not covered. Weiser asks for proof of purchase. And damage from improper installation, misuse or commercial use is excluded. The full terms are on Weiser's warranty page.

A successful claim typically gets you a replacement part or lock. Removing the old lock and fitting the new one is still up to you.

Why is my Weiser deadbolt hard to turn?

Open the door and turn the deadbolt. If it moves smoothly with the door open and binds with the door closed, the lock is fine. The bolt is rubbing on the strike plate because the door has dropped on its hinges or swollen with the season. That's common in the GTA, where doors move between humid summers and dry winters.

The fix is adjusting the hinges or the strike, not buying a new lock. Don't keep forcing it. A bolt that drags every day wears out the lock, and on a smart lock it drains the batteries and eventually strains the motor.

If the deadbolt is stiff even with the door open, the problem is inside the lock, and it needs repair or replacement.

My Weiser SmartKey lock won't turn after re-keying. What now?

SmartKey cylinders can be re-keyed at home, but only if you have the current working key and the small SmartKey Learn Tool. If a step goes wrong, for example the key is pulled out partway through, the cylinder can end up accepting no key at all.

Forcing the key makes it worse. Weiser has a video walkthrough for recovering a jammed SmartKey cylinder, and a locksmith can reset the cylinder or swap it for a new one. In most cases the rest of the lock stays on the door.

If you have lost the only working key, you can't re-key it yourself. Weiser's own guidance is to take the lock to the retailer or to a locksmith to have it reset.

What should I check when a Weiser smart lock stops working?

  1. Batteries first. Replace all of them at once with fresh alkaline batteries. Weak batteries cause most keypad and motor problems, including a bolt that stops halfway.

  2. Then the door. Lock it with the door open. If the bolt runs freely when open and struggles when closed, it's the alignment problem described above.

  3. Then the app. If the lock works from the keypad but not from your phone, the fault is pairing or Wi-Fi, not the lock. Our guide to connecting a door lock to your phone walks through it.

Remember that every Weiser smart deadbolt still has a key cylinder. Keep a working key somewhere outside the house, so dead batteries never lock you out.

Is Weiser a Canadian company?

Weiser is a residential lock brand sold mainly in Canada, and it's the lock fitted on a large share of new homes in Ontario. It has a Canadian office in Mississauga. It isn't Canadian-owned: Weiser belongs to ASSA ABLOY, the Swedish lock group, which acquired it in 2023 together with Kwikset and Baldwin. That shared ownership is why Weiser and Kwikset both use SmartKey cylinders.

Is Weiser a good brand?

For most interior and secondary doors, yes. Weiser locks are affordable, easy to find, easy to re-key and backed by a lifetime mechanical warranty. For a front door where security is the priority, we usually suggest a heavier deadbolt or a high-security cylinder. We compare the two most common choices in Schlage vs Weiser in Canada.

Should I repair or replace a Weiser lock?

  • Repair or adjust when the problem is alignment, a loose handle, a worn latch or a jammed cylinder on a lock that is otherwise sound.

  • Re-key when the lock works but you don't know who has keys: after a move, a lost key or a tenant change.

  • Replace when the internal mechanism has broken, the finish has failed outside warranty, or you want better security than the lock was built to give.

We'll tell you which one it is before we start, and we quote before any work.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Weiser customer service number in Canada?

Weiser's consumer support line for Canada is 1-800-501-9471. English support runs Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm Eastern. French support runs Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Eastern. Check Weiser's website for current hours.

Does the Weiser lifetime warranty cover locks that came with my house?

Usually not. Weiser's lifetime mechanical and finish warranties apply to the original purchaser for as long as they own the lock, and Weiser asks for proof of purchase. If you bought the home with the locks already installed, call Weiser to confirm, but expect to pay for repair or replacement.

How long is the warranty on a Weiser smart lock?

The electronic components carry a 1-year limited warranty. The mechanical parts and the finish keep Weiser's lifetime coverage for the original purchaser.

Can a locksmith re-key a Weiser SmartKey lock?

Yes. A locksmith can re-key SmartKey locks, reset a cylinder when the working key has been lost, and key several locks alike so one key opens every door.

Can I re-key a Weiser lock myself?

If it has a SmartKey cylinder, yes, provided you have the current working key and the SmartKey Learn Tool. Without the working key it can't be done at home.

Is Weiser owned by Kwikset?

No. Weiser and Kwikset are sister brands. Both are owned by ASSA ABLOY, which acquired them in 2023, and both use SmartKey cylinders.
