Door Reinforcement in Toronto: Stop Kick-Ins at the Frame

Most break-ins through a door don't defeat the lock. They split the wood around it. KDL Locksmith reinforces doors and frames for homes and businesses across Toronto and the GTA, so the lock, the strike and the frame hold together when someone kicks or pries the door. How we reinforce a door

Heavy-duty strike plates and long screws

The strike plate is where most kick-ins win. We fit a heavy-duty strike with long screws that reach the wall framing, not just the thin door jamb.

Steel jamb reinforcement

A full-length steel reinforcement along the jamb spreads the force of a kick across the frame instead of one weak spot at the deadbolt.

Hinge-side reinforcement

Short hinge screws let a door be forced from the hinge side. We replace them with long screws into the framing.

Deadbolt and high-security lock upgrades

A reinforced frame needs a lock to match. We fit quality deadbolts and, as an authorized dealer, Mul-T-Lock and Medeco high-security locks with pick and drill resistance and key control.

Multipoint locks

On doors built for them, a multipoint lock locks the door at several points along the frame at once.

Repair after a break-in

If a door has already been kicked in, we make it lockable again, repair the jamb around the lock, fit reinforcement and rekey or replace the locks. Read can a locksmith repair a broken door frame?

Who we reinforce doors for

  • Homeowners after a break-in, or before one
  • Landlords and property managers with ground-floor units
  • Storefronts, offices and back doors on commercial buildings

Locksmith or carpenter?

A locksmith fixes and reinforces damage around the lock, strike and hinges. A rotted, warped or fully destroyed frame needs a carpenter or door installer first. We tell you which one you need before any work starts.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to reinforce a door frame?

Fit a heavy-duty strike plate or a steel jamb reinforcement with long screws into the wall framing, and pair it with a quality deadbolt. Most kick-ins break the frame at the strike, so that is where reinforcement does the most.

Is a better lock enough on its own?

Usually not. A high-security lock stops picking and drilling, but a kick-in breaks the wood around the lock. Reinforce the frame and upgrade the lock together.

Do I need a new door after a kick-in?

Usually not. Most kick-ins damage the frame at the strike, not the door. The frame can be repaired and reinforced, and the door reused.

Do you reinforce commercial doors?

Yes. We reinforce doors and frames for offices, storefronts and other commercial buildings across Toronto and the GTA.
