Access Control Systems for Toronto Businesses

KDL Locksmith installs and repairs access control for offices, condo and apartment buildings, retail stores and warehouses across Toronto and the GTA. We are a commercial locksmith, so we fix the whole door: the electric strike or lock, the closer, the latch and the frame, not just the reader on the wall. Licensed and insured, in the trade since 1988.

Access control services

Electric strikes

An electric strike replaces the fixed strike plate in the frame and releases the latch when it gets a signal from a buzzer, intercom, keypad or card reader. We install and repair electric strikes on wood, steel, aluminum and glass doors, and sort out the common fault where the strike buzzes but the door will not open. Keypads, card and fob readers

Keypad entry, proximity cards and fobs let you give access without handing out keys and remove it without changing locks. Tell us how many doors and users you have and we will recommend a system. Ask us about adding a reader to a door that already has an electric strike.

Magnetic locks

Mag-locks hold a door closed with an electromagnet and are common on glass and aluminum entrances. Ask us whether a mag-lock or an electric strike suits your door; the answer depends on the door, the fire-exit rules for that opening and how it is used.

Keyless and electronic locks

Stand-alone keypad levers and electronic locks for single doors, back rooms and offices that do not need a wired system. See electronic locks.

Buzz-in doors and intercoms

Lobby doors released from a suite or a front desk. We repair the door side of the system: the strike, the latch, the closer and the alignment that makes the buzz-in work every time.

Exit devices and door closers

Access control only works when the door closes and latches on its own. We install and repair panic bars and door closers, including concealed closers on glass doors, so the door locks behind every person who goes through it.

Automatic doors

Accessible entrances with push buttons and automatic operators, often working together with an electric strike or mag-lock. See automatic door repair in Toronto.

Who we do this for

Property managers and condo boards, offices, retail storefronts, medical and dental clinics, warehouses and industrial units. For buildings with several doors we offer fire-door inspections. See our commercial locksmith page.

Why a locksmith for access control

  • Most access-control faults are in the door, not the electronics: a strike out of line with the latch, a closer that no longer pulls the door shut, a frame that has shifted. We fix those.
  • We supply the mechanical side too: locks, cylinders, closers, exit devices and storefront hardware, so one call covers the whole opening.
  • Licensed and insured, in the trade since 1988.

What to have ready when you call

The type of door (glass, aluminum, steel or wood), what releases it today (buzzer, keypad, reader or nothing yet), and what it does when it fails. A photo of the frame edge and the strike helps us bring the right parts the first time.

Service area

Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Mississauga and Brampton.

Frequently asked questions

My buzz-in door buzzes but does not open. What is wrong?

Usually the electric strike is not lining up with the latch, or the door has sagged so the latch is under pressure. Sometimes the strike itself has failed. A locksmith checks the alignment first, then the strike.

Electric strike or mag-lock: which should I use?

It depends on the door and how it is used. Electric strikes keep a mechanical latch and work with most existing locks. Mag-locks suit glass and aluminum doors but need power to stay locked and must release safely on an exit path. Ask us and we will look at the door.

Can you add access control to a door that already has a lock?

Often, yes. An electric strike fits in the frame beside the existing latch; a keypad or reader can be added on the wall. We confirm by looking at the door and frame.

Do you repair systems you did not install?

Yes. Call 416-303-0255 and tell us the door and the fault.
